My North County San Diego underwater sessions include both underwater and above-water photography, because the whole story matters.
Some of my favorite images happen below the surface, where everything becomes soft, quiet, and magical.
But I also love the moments above the water: kids climbing out of the pool, wrapped in towels, laughing with wet eyelashes, eating snacks poolside, jumping in again before anyone can stop them.
It’s the full feeling of summer.

Professional underwater photography with real camera gear
These sessions are photographed with the same professional camera I use for my family documentary sessions, placed inside professional underwater scuba housing.
That means I’m not using a phone in a plastic pouch or a simple underwater point-and-shoot.
The setup allows me to create sharp, expressive, high-quality images both above and below the surface while still keeping the session relaxed and playful.
The result is a mix of documentary storytelling and underwater magic: photographs that feel like childhood, summer, and Southern California all wrapped into one.
Who are underwater sessions best for?
Underwater sessions are perfect for North County San Diego families who want something different from a traditional family photo session.

Underwater maternity photography
Underwater photography can also be especially beautiful during pregnancy.
The water creates a completely different feeling from a traditional maternity session. Fabric floats, movement becomes soft and weightless, and your changing body becomes part of something almost dreamlike.
We can create a few more intentionally composed underwater maternity portraits while still keeping the session relaxed and natural. And because my underwater sessions include photography both above and below the surface, we can also document the rest of the experience: swimming together, playing with older children, relaxing by the pool, or simply enjoying a summer day as a couple and/or with your other children.
Underwater maternity photographs can also be part of an A Year in Your Life membership, beginning with pregnancy and continuing through your baby’s first year.

I only offer a limited number of underwater family photography sessions while the pools are warm and before the school-year routine takes over again.
These sessions are a way to hold onto the feeling of North County San Diego summer before it slips by: the long days, the warm water, the sunburned shoulders, the endless jumping in and climbing out.
Because one day, the pool toys will disappear from the backyard.
The goggles will be too small.
The cannonballs will be quieter.
