A Year in the Life of a High School Senior: The Real Story Behind the Last Year at Home

Senior year is full of endings and beginnings. It is the last time your teen will live under your roof every day, the last late-night talks in the kitchen, the last family breakfasts before everyone heads off to their own plans. It is also the beginning of independence, discovery, and everything that comes next.

Most senior portraits focus on how they look, but what they miss is the story of their life this last year of high school, their personality, their connections with their family and friends. The quiet, fleeting details that make this chapter unforgettable.

That is what inspired my Year in the Life Senior Sessions.

Instead of a single photo session of perfect hair and practiced smiles, I photograph your senior’s final year at home in four parts. Each one captures a season of their life as it naturally unfolds.

Four Sessions, One Extraordinary Year

Each family’s story looks a little different and is completely customizable to you, but here is an example of what these sessions could include.:

Session One: A day at home. Laughter over breakfast, the dog stealing socks, the messy joy of real life. Family game night, cooking together, etc.
Session Two: A portrait session that feels true. Beautiful light, authentic connection, no stiff poses.
Session Three: A milestone or adventure. A birthday, a game, a night out with friends, or whatever matters most to your senior.
Session Four: The end of the school year. Reflections, celebrations, and quiet moments before the next chapter begins.

Every session builds on the last, creating a story of growth, emotion, and belonging. It becomes a record not only of your teen but of your whole family during this unforgettable time.

Why Documentary Photography Matters

When your child leaves home, you will have the cap and gown photos and the traditional senior photos. But what you will miss most are the small, ordinary moments. The way they lean against the counter when they talk to you, how they drop their bag on the floor after school, the sound of them laughing with a friend who has been part of your lives for years.

That is what documentary photography preserves. These moments are not filler. They are everything.

When you look back on your Year in the Life collection, you will see not just what your child looked like at 17 or 18, but who they were and who you were together.

What You Will Receive

After each session, we will meet for a relaxed viewing and design appointment, at your home. You will choose your favorite images and decide how you want to preserve them.

At the end of the year, you will have a stunning heirloom album, wall art, and/or photo box that tells the full story of your senior’s final year at home. It becomes a time capsule of love, growth, and connection that you will treasure forever.

Let’s Tell This Story Together

If your teen is graduating this year, now is the time to begin.
Sessions take place throughout the school year, and I only take a few families each year so that every story receives the time and care it deserves.
